I know they both worked when I first started car after engine install. Now, nothing... I gotta get these working by wed. so I can take to get tuned. Any quick areas to check? Thanks

What's the proper way to check w/o a scanner? I checked the connectors and wiring, fuses, relays etc...
stock fan on is pretty high. and the temp sensor is an easy install for the cheap
I'm going to put a scanner on it tonight tosee if I'm getting a reading. I'm hoping not. I think that would most likely point to sensor. I'm sure there is a troubleshooting chart for this. Just in a bind as my dyno apt is tomorrow. * stressful
Off the top of my head, since you installed a motor recently. Any oddball electrical stuff happening? Maybe the grounds at the lowest trans bolt/stud.
I have an airbag light on too. Forget the actual codes. Something about open loop in front sensors or modules. Would they be on same ground circuit?
i agree with bill, bad grounds are real grimlins
I'm not sitting in front of the schematic. Shooting straight off the hip on this one.
If you do a motor and everything works but no start, that's a ground. Your fans should get a healthy ground. The power comes from a relay. So the ground is up in the air. The coolant temp sensor should be looped with all other sensors. But..it might get ground from the engine block. Tough to say.
well i guess a good way to test the temp sensor ground would be to test at both wires for voltage, and if nothing, then test at one wire with ground to the block.
and then try the opposite wire and ground to the block.
ok, so I hooked the scanner to car. I got a temp reading and could turn fans on and off using tool. That tells me that the ect sensor is working. (at least on the PCM side) Wouldn't that side control the fans too? It's almost like the fans are controlled by the instrument cluster reading which I don't understand. The schematic shows the fans controlled by the computer. I'm baffled, and crabby... any ideas?
See if this link works for ya, Linky. The coolant temp sensor can be tested with an ohm meter. Haven't tried it myself but hope it helps.
