And yes the engine has to be running. also you can do it without a scan tool but you might broke the sensor. basically all you have to do is listen to the rpm's but so have someone watch the tach. when you hit the sensor the rpm's will jump if the sensor is functional.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I found the problem a few days ago. My .52 gap on the 103's was too large. I took them to .49 and still had a very slight miss. So I brought them down to .45 and she's running better than ever.
