Which L67 should I try to go after?

Specifically, which car donor would be the easiest for doing the entire L67 swap to a 1998 Monte Carlo Z34?

I read / heard from different places that these L67 motors aren't all exactly 100% alike, some of the wiring is different in certain vehicles... and I got a reply from a junkyard in Austin, TX that said he carries several different types of L67's.

" I need to know the year of the engine you want. I have several 3800 supers on the lot and on the shelf, just gotta narrow down which one you need."

so which one should I go after if anything?

H and C body ones are less likely to be abused but they wouldnt be as easy to swap.

W body ones would be the easiest to swap but more likely to be abused.

I see... so basically Sedans vs Coupes then? (I'm not too car engine savvy at all...)

I heard 97 GTP's are the least desirable donors, so should I try and aim for perhaps a 98+ GTP?

It depends on the year of the car...If your's is a 1997, get a 1997 motor. If it's a 1998-2003, just try and grab one with the lowest miles you can find/the best price.

There is no difference in motor between a sedan and a coupe. Just try and find a clean, old lady driven donor...which would imply sedans are better, since little old ladies dont drive coupes XD.

Best bet is a low miles, babied Regal..but anything L67 will work.

grand prix's and regals.

regals might be better.

First you need to see which accessory brackets and engine harness are going to work for the z34 Monte Carlo ,as that is an older car that never had the L67 offered.

I would do some more research on the swap to find out what will work with your car. Such as which harness to use to simplify modding it to your car and other things as well.

Also you can use any L67 engine and swap the necessary brackets to fit the swap in your car.

Well so far I got a 59k engine w/o tranny out of a 03 Bonneville and the junkyard dealer is asking $1200 for it. Im pretty sure the Bonneville will fit nice in my z34 98 Monte Carlo ... what do u guys think other than the pretty steep price which of course i'll haggle

IIRC a W body mount up is the way it mounts. Therefore you'd be better off going with something W body. The H and C bodies aren't going to be abused any less. They are heavier cars on the same drivetrain with the same basic nutbag drivers behind the wheel.

Almost any of the bracketry for an alt should fit fine, go with the best mileage/price.

How do you think an 04 Bonneville L67 will fit?

I know it would. I've done these swaps many times.

Swap the rear exhaust manifold, any emissions stuff that looks different and being a GP, the oil pan/oil pick up tube and engine mount bracket. Poof...it'll drop right in.

Then let me know...usually I got a buddy or two looking for the oil pan/pick up tube/oil filter adapter.

You also have a great wiring harness to work with. Most of the previous gen swaps we used a 98 monte/lumina 3800 wiring harness and modified it.

One owner cars are good choices as well since normally they took care of them and can tell you all the bugs. Typically it's best to find a matching year car as under normal circumstances all the parts should be the same. there are rare cases of mid-year part changes in some manufacturers.

XD, just a saying. My Grandma drive a 2003 ZO6....No kidding either...

But for the most part, 1 owner vehicles from older couples that were garage queens would be the most ideal...
