Hum, 97 GTP, 3800 Series II. NO codes have come up? Did you look at my listings on my 04 GTP? Not sure on the background of the problem, did it start over night or has it been acting up some? Several things to think of, but not sure on how many suggestions you have received so far?

Will need to think of this a little. You have stated some things that sound a little crazy. I did not notice you mentioned plug wires or plugs? how many miles is on your car? Did you have it checked with a body scanner like a Snap On just to see if they can find an issue? Normally if a plug wire is bad a code will come up. The crank Position Sensor and at times the Cam Sensor can be a problem and no codes may come up at all. With the Tac going crazy that seems more like a ignition timing issue, but their again if something is not working the Tac could just be trying to find out where it should be at the time.

Was it WET outside when the car started having problems? Going up a hill and the car missing I would point right at the ignition wires, plugs, coil packs. I have seen the coil packs get corroded and cause a lot of issues also. I would have it checked with a good scanner before I went any further and back up and look at things more.

I assume your car is just like my Wife's car, she has the 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SSEI which is the series 11 3800 Supercharged motor ?
