Ya read it all if that's your response. I'm not going to clog up a guys post over a pointless internet argument with a person who clearly doesn't know the platform well and pulls out a bike pump to inflate his ego by using a name that suggests he's a "pro".
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Ok just a little update….. I changed the thermostat and radiator cap today and the car went up to the line just below the middle mark and stayed there. Drove it around for awhile and really got on it and it didn’t move from that line much at all. I hope that it is fixed now. I will post again in a few days and let everyone know how it is after a couple of days of driving. I want to thank everyone so much for all of your help here. Come to SLC and drink will be on me.

This car is driving me crazy! Ok now I have just the opposite problem that I had before. The car will not heat up. Today I drove it across town nearly 30 miles and the gauge barley got above the bottom line on the temp gauge. I thought that since I had replace the temp sending unit that I had got a bad sending unit so after just a few miles I pulled over and felt the engine with my hand and it was just warm to the touch. I also checked it again when i arrived where i was going and the same thing. Just warm to the touch. I know that this is a problem that many overheating people would much rather have then theirs but I need to get this fixed. Please any ideas with this one……..
Also what temps do the lines on the gauge represent? Like the 25%=???f? 50=???f 75=???f
Thanks again for your help so far guys.

That would be sweet... Can you imagine that it could be only LIM gaskets and a T stat. How nice.

Ok so it seems that I have a bad head or head gasket. I confimed it with the coolant hydrocarbon test. Is there a step by step how to that any of you know of? Thanks for your help so far.

Well i dont know what else it could be. The hydrocarbon test is showing that exhaust is getting into the coolant. I have already changed the LIM. Is there any thing else it could be?

probably not, makes sense to me. it's just hard to lean towards a head gasket when it's such an uncommon thing to happen.

    tear 'er apart.

Are there bolts to remove the bracket?

the valve cover itself is def loose it just doesn't have enough clearance with the bracket to pick it up over and out.

Let us all know what the problem is before you go pulling the head. If you can't get a valve cover off I doubt you have the knowhow to replace a head gasket. 99 times out of 100 the head gasket is NOT the problem on the 3800.

So tell us what's going on. I'm sure we can help.

the part the spark plugs connect to is mounted on it but nothing connects it to the motor from there, There is a pulley with a torque head through it that looks like it connects to the block, and another longer one buried between 2 other small pulleys with a nut on it that ai can't get a ratchet or wrench on because of the spacing.

Ok first things first this thread is over a year old, second why did you hijack it and not make a new thread? Third you have to remove the bolts and nut on the side of the bracket to remove the bracket.

Remove the tensioner It think it's a 13mm or a 15mm. The long bolt you almost need a crows foot to get to the nut but it can be done without one.
