It may be a pulley or harmonic balancer issue because from time to time i would hear a grinding sound which i though sounded like a pulley locking up and i though they belt burning from friction was causing the smell, also if I pull the plugs and it still doesnt crank could it not be the harmonic balancer?

harmonic balancer bolts to the crank, all it does is balance everything, if it were to go bad you would get mad vibrations, not a engine that wont turn.

Sean...please answer some of the following:
Does the car have one belt or two?
Do you see pullies for a second belt, but no belt?
Do you see any frayed material sticking out from behind any pullies?
Does coolant come out if you remove the plugs?
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I see both belts they look fine. I just removed the plugs and smelt coolant on one. it was the middle on the back didnt check what cylinder that was. I still cant crank the harmonic balancer

On the crank pulley, no. That huge ass bolt in the middle holds it to the crankshaft.

Now on the tensioners/idlers, the pulley spins freely of the bolt.

ok so what do you know i pull the belts and it cranks!!! The only pulley that doesnt spin is the one next to the harmonic balance to the right. This would be the one at the bottom. It would be in line with the coils if you were looking down from the hood. What is it?

sounds like the a/c compressor see if this helps you narrow it down.

    Get a new one.

You'll need to have it discharged by a shop. Then you can either swap it out for a new compressor, a reman'd compressor, or an AC pulley delete. The delete takes the compressor and replaces it with a single idler pulley...so no AC.

Cheapest way I've seen (my AC comp is ****ed too) is to get a reman'd compressor, get a shop to discharge the system, and then install the compressor yourself. Then charge the system.

Umm...you have to have a shop discharge it. You wont be able to, plus theres a massive fine if you get caught doing so.

Should be about $200 for a compressor, and nothing for labor since you'll be doing that.
Shop shouldnt charge much to discharge it.

And you cant really run much without that belt on...cause that's on the Alternator, Water pump, and power steering pump too...

Probably have to get it towed.

Also, you'll need to figure out why you smelled coolant when you pulled that plug.

Well, like I said, theres a massive fine if caught.
I live right on a river, with lots of wildlife, and my neighbors are assholes...so there's no way I could.

Just telling him the right way to do it. For $20bucks, i'd rather a shop do it, than chance a $50,000 fine.
