Is this just a missing freeze plug or what? It's on the driver's side block below thermostat housing.

That's a standard hole... it's open on all 3800's that I've ever seen. It is open into the flex plate to TC area. No worries...totally normal.

I was gonna say...after rebuilding mine from the ground up...there are a few spots where nothing goes, hell even the bell housing has a spot for a bolt but there isn't a hole in the block on the other side...

That would be a hole...And it appears to be doing it's job very well..

And like blue said, after I put my engine back together, there were a few places where nothing went.

Okay my bad, for some reason I thought I was looking at the side of the block. Yeah I noticed that hole when I had my engine out as well.

The funny part is...that hole is on every block, right on the front where we can easily see it. Yet....we never notice it.

We've all done the same thing and freaked out like you did.. That part is normal too.
