On my 2000 GTP I have an odd noise that really makes itself present at the tensioner pulley below the super charger. I thought coupler or tensioner. I replaced that, and the noise was still there. Took the belts off and its still there. It sees to be generating from behind the water pump and basically it makes the knocking type noise from idle to about 1200 rpm, and makes a kind of slap when you turn the car off. With the AC on, the noise is quieter. Does that sound like a timing tensioner issue? The sound is pretty much exactly what a coupler or bad tensioner sounds like. The car has been driving perfectly fine, and the noise has not gotten worse or louder since it began a couple months ago ( i dont drive the car too much) Any insight? Thanks!

It could if it was loose, but it might also be the chain like you said, check the pulleys for play.
