My spark plug boot on the the third cyclinder is charred all the way around. I just put a new wire on it yesterday and its already been burnt through. does anyone know anything that it could be? this is the only boot that is burnt.

Are the heat shields on the wire? Is it the right style wire? Is it touching the manifold or heat shield.

sometimes when the ceramic on the plugs crack this happens to the boot. Ususally it's not REAL bad though. Look at the plugs for any real small cracks in the ceramic. Otherwise my vote it for the heat sheilds

There should be a silver cylinder around the bottom of the wire.

are the heat shields the plastic around the boot of the wire? do you think that it could be a cylinder problem that i should take it in. No other boot is doing that. there is a bit of a crack in the manifold that could let warm air heat it up, but its been there ever since i had the car and no problems.

Take some pics of the wires. That will help a ton.

the wires are specific to the gtp. i bought them online. the burnt one just sort of charred the plastic around the metal part of the boot. it look like it was burnt from the spark plug and not the manifold.

is it bad to not have anything protecting the spark plug? the plug is just connected to the metal part of the boot.

upload your photos to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and make an account then paste the [img]....[\img] tags from there. PS all of your links are failing.

Here's a picture of the spark plug boot protectors circled in red. Please forgive my dirty engine and old pic.

I was gonna suggest replacing the plug but you beat me to it... It does sound like your plug might be bad. PS if your phone has a camera you can upload the picture to photobucket too or send the pic by picture message to your email account then upload it to photobucket.
