Alright, I drive a 2000 GTP s/c'ed, it's got about 130k miles on it, and I replaced the entire snout (new coupler, though I think it was a cheezy knockoff, came with the reman'ed snout). Now my wife called me at work today and told me I needed to get home, and I needed to be there, now (family issues.) and I got in the car and immediately started up with my lead foot. When I got home, a whopping 4 minutes later, I noticed a very obvious and constant metal on metal almost tapping sound, which seems to be coming from the snout portion of the supercharger.... it seems to be RPM dependant (gets faster/louder above idle).

I haven't taken the snout off to take a look at the internals and see what's going on in there, and I'm w ondering if anyone's had a similar problem after some obvious abuse. I also need to note that previous times I've beat up on the engine (taking kids to the hospital quicker than... legal... and so on) I've heard a VERY similar noise, but it would go away after a few hours of cooldown for the motor, This time is has NOT gone away.

The car is my primary mode of transportation, and I really can't afford to have it in the shop or my garage for days at a time to figure out what's wrong with it.

Should I buy a snout rebuild kit (new coupler, maybe a bearing or two, and new oils?) or an entirely new snout and swap it out AGAIN. Gimme some help fellas (and ladies), so I don't end up spending a boatload of money and then MORE money to fix the problem right.... help? Please?

Have you taken the SC belt off to see if the sound stops? could be a good start right there.

You can hear the noise clearly coming from the S/C if you put your head up next to it, or take a socket extension and put it to your ear and the pulley.... it's definitely the s/c

I think I'm just gonna buy a good rebuild kit (probly from like ZZP or something) and go from there, see what that does... if I drive 'er like a granny, she doesn't really make the noise, but when I hit a shift point at hi throttle/rpm (like yanno, if I'm at WOT) she starts to make a lotta noise just before the shift.

    Yay... this sucks...

If you already replaced the snout bearings and the coupler, you may just need to look for a set of rotors. they don't make any kits for those, just get a good used set and swap them out.

Thanks Rep, I don't know a whole lot about the internals of the s/c or the snout or anything, so I appreciate the info, I'll look into it.

When a coupler goes bad, its more like a knock or thump a quick test to check if its the coupler, remove belt from SC and take pulley in hand and turn back and forth fast, if it knocks...coupler.

If it only makes noise when running, then most likely its your rotors I reckon if the snouts already been rebuilt, and the coupler replaced.
