Thread: blinkin SES then steady fixed

Just replaced a broken valve spring on my 01 GTP (#1 on the exhaust side). Got it all back together and the car ran great, for about 20 miles.

First I got the blinking SES. Tried the car a bit later, solid SES at idle, idle is jumping around a bit. Under acceleration the steady SES becomes a blinking SES.

I know the normal things to check for plugs wires and coil packs (anyone know what ohm reading they should be) its almost 5 am here and I haven't checked any of it yet. So I will check all tomorrow(today).

My main concern is the valve spring I also replaced the seal on that valve. Could a problem with that valve be causing a steady SES at idle and then a blinking SES under load. It goes back to steady when there is no load on it.

Just looking for ideas of stuff to check other than the normal stuff.

What springs are on the motor and what did you replace that one spring with?

got into town misfire on #1 time to go to work with an ohm meter.

Check the compression on number 1 and see if the valve kissed the piston when the spring broke.

I hope that is not it . I don't think it is because the car ran great for about 20 miles. Put it all back together and took it for a drive and no lights or anything.

So after I fixed the valve spring it ran awesome for about 20 to 25 miles. So I think internally the engine should be good.

Waiting for the engine to cool to pull the plug and stuff. I burn my hands enough welding don't want to burn them on the manifold

No its dead stock, I pulled the plug and I am pretty sure that since I cheaped out and didn't replace the valve stem seal with a brand new one I am getting oil into the combustion chamber. Plug had oil on it. not alot but but enough to cause the problem I think. So back into the motor I go to do it right the second time

Moral of the story, you can't get away with anything.

I am still hoping the piston is ok. The plug is not bent or damaged in anyway. I realize that does not preclude damage but compression check was fine. I forget the numbers but they were the very close on the front bank

Well if got the misfire on #1 taken care of, turned out in I had not tightened the rocker bolt down and it had started backing off. One of those did I really do that moments. Got that all taken care of.

Then misfire code again, this time on #3 well needed a new coil, the #3 tower actually was rusted. Got a new coil, plugs and plug wires.

So far so good I have only driven it about 10 miles now with no codes showing and it runs good, got good power feels about right to me.

So heres to hoping I took care of everything. Tell you what this is about the easiest east west motor I have ever changed the plugs on
