Put soap on it
my belt squeaked too. i discovered it was off one rib on the crank...toward the outside.
Its not the belt, it's the pulleys. Take the belt off and use a wire brush on them. Theres residue from your old belt on them and when cold it squeeks, when hot it sticks.
Might not be the same case, but. I had a poor experience with a gatorback belt.
I needed a new belt for my 92 chev pickup so I bought a gatorback, figured it costs more should be better.
Belt was on for a week when I started the truck on a 95F day and turned the ac on, it squeeled and then the belt jumped off. I put it back on using a crowbar "was at work" Then noticed the idler pully was almost touching the waterpump pully. I drove home slow but the next day the belt jumped off again.
I went and bought another Gates belt which was much stiffer and kept the idler much higher up. The gatorback was soft and stretchy.
Due to that experience, i'll probably never buy another gatorback belt.
If I were you, i'd go buy a Gates belt and ditch the goodyear one, your squeal will probably go away.
Didn't say it was permanent...it just narrows things down if it is the help it'll tell you if thats your issue
sparty, mine does that at first, not really a squeel, but little faint chirps. i just replaced both belts, but i also need to replace my p/s pump. its leaky lol. it goes away as soon as i move.
i didnt use gator belts tho, i dont remember which ones i used. bro got em from oriellys. 406606060 or some ****.
Hey, I just went thru this same exact thing, Changed the serpitine belt, and all was good.
i had squealing on mine then i replaced my ps pump and when i put everything back together it chirped really loud, double checked and the belt was off a tad on the ac pulley now its all good, just try checking everything is all lined up
Mine does that as well but it's all the time even under acceleration, put a new belt on , stopped for about a week, started back up. Changed out the Tensioner on the ACC side and still did it thought it was the alternator, still did it. Sanded down my water pump pulley and that stopped it for about a week or so, and now it's doing it again..
Any other ideas? It stops for a few miles if i put break fluid on it, but other than that my only other idea/suggestion was to use a gator belt but now that i have read this im going to avoid that idea all together lol
Chi_Town
I just went throught this too only on my sc belt. Check the alignment of the belt and make sure it is stright. Mine was off due to me pressing the mps hub on too far. I was on groove off on my 8 rib pulley.
Dont put anything on your belt. You just ruined it. Get a new good belt. I have a gator grip and it works fine on my car.
