I am currently getting ready to put my headers on. The exhaust manifolds are off and the EGR is out. What is the most common way of blocking off the EGR and the safest way to do so as well. I have heard of a dime trick and I dont think I really want to do that but I know there are other ways I just dont know them. Thanks!

if you dont car to put your EGR back on then you can do what i did. cut the ends off the hoses that bolt into the manifold and lower intake. rtv a quarter on one and a nickel on the other. let them dry and bolt them back on. $.30 block off plates.

if you want to keep the EGR complete just buy some block off plates from zzp. or if youre crafty just take a couple small metal plates and just drill a hole in them.

rtv is going to be your best friend in this project.

Well there isn't room for one on the headers right? I may just cut them off im not sure...I dont think ill ever sell the car and try to make it stock again lol. What I worry about is the thing sucking in one of the coins and just destroying the motor...

Dang I swore I wouldn't post here again.

    Hey Dan

I have a pair of the ZZP blockoff plates (new). You can have them if you want to meet me over at Oakbrooke to pick them up. I also have a nice little plate to show you. It is pretty handy if you want to leave the EGR "visually" intact.

PM me from the STL forum if you want those plates. Or call me. My cell is in the members section.

I cut off my exhaust-side EGR flange and placed a penny against the EGR hole in the headers, RTVed the crap out of it with copper rtv, and tightened the egr flange down over it. I then took the now-exposed EGR tube and put a small filter on it and zip tied it to the EGR shield.

This prevents any SES lights from getting set. I have a Powrtuner now, so I might remove it later, but I've been lazy and left it there. You can see it in this pic next to the EGR and master cylinder res.

Thats neat. So do you have to completely remove the EGR with headers I dont fully understand the point in doing so.

Dan, You don't HAVE to remove the EGR to do headers. You saw my TOGs and fully functional EGR yesterday. Some people claim they do it, for weigh savings, less clutter, couldn't get it to seal right at the headers...etc. Mine fit fine on both sets of TOG's. Not sure what the fit will be like with your Pacesetters. BTW, did you get very far with the install last night?

I did. I just finished up and the EGR leaks. So I go to pull that off and I look inside my blower and theres coolant all in there. I am pissed...so I guess I gotta spend tommarrow breaking it down and replacing gaskets...oughta be a fun time.

Sorry to hear that bud. Are putting on the aluminum LIM gaskets? Too bad it's so darn cold today on top of everything else. The upside is you still driving the Z06, yes?

If there is coolant in your blower, it's more than likely the tb gasket. It's possibly the bypass valve could suck it in from lower intake, but I doubt it would be that much.

BTW, you don't have to remove the EGR for headers. I have pacesetters and the EGR was such a tight fit that I got sick of trying to fit the tube within the headers (it slipped in fine when it was off the car for a 'test fit'). Besides, you'll have to disable it anyway if you get an intercooler because it will clog it with carbon buildup.

Rook, you could very well be right about the TB gasket.

Well it was the TB gasket. I took her around for a spin and there is an exhaust leak, probably between the cat and the part that bolts to the catback exhaust. I still gotta reroute some wires, but atleast there isn't a coolant leak.

so lemme get this straight ....when i put on my intercooleer i could just block off the exhaust and lim egr ports and deleate the codes set by the egr being removed correct? thanks
