Well i finally took my car out on its maiden voyage (after the winter mods)! I found out my car was not running right and code p0102 kept showing up. i unplugged my MAF sensor and it ran better than it was! i've been told its uncommon for them to fail... is there a way to test with volt/ohm meter to figure out if its good or bad or if the sensors just needs to be cleaned?

You can try cleaning it but if it doesn't run right still then it needs replaced

it'll run like an absolute dream if you replace it. i tried cleaning mine with the cleaner you get at autozone a couple times and it didn't do anything. if you bring the core in, it's only like $130 and it's a lifetime warranty. just curious, have you checked for knock? that could be another reason it's not running well, you never know with just getting back out.

Just fixed mine, it was the maf fuse blew for some reason and it was not the sensor. Same code. Its the low input code, as in the computer doesnt see the correct voltage/frequency its looking for. The maf itself was getting no power.Originally Posted by whodat79
You should have 12v with ignition in run position on pin C if not check the minifuse 21, its a 15A located in the underhood fuse panel on pass side engine bay. Make sure you also have a good ground at pin B.

I'll check the fuse but if its not the fuse.... i was thinkin of going to a local junk yard and seeing if there a MAF that i could buy for cheap. thats why i was asking for a volt meter reading. if there isn't a to test for a good MAF at the junk yard then i guess i'll just "Bit the bullet" and buy a new one from autozone for $135. GM wants $366 WOW

Ok now i'm @ a loss... I'm still getting the same code. I have replace all vacuum and the MAF sensor (sensor i bought new). Any thougths? HELP PLEASE

BTW the new sensor did fix the idle problem and the hick up on acceleration!

got a replacement from advanced and had to get another because the reman. was bad check that to now it runs awesome

I have a 99 Grand Prix GT with 186k. I get an engine flucuation (1900-2300rpm) when its under a load such as trying to increase acceleration from a steady cruising speed. The occurs at 1900-2100 rpm & a speed of about 55mph. It takes an increase of the gas pedal, to make it stop going up & down (tach needle) of aprox. 2600-2800 rpm & a speed of aprox 65 mph or getting on a level road which eliminates the load/ drag on the engine. Could this also be a MAS/MAF problem as you are discussing here?

it could be, but you'd have a check engine light. a few of us actually were talking about this in another thread not too long ago, and the solution we came up with was that the pcm throughout the years accounts for "wear and tear" on drivetrain components and changes things like fuel trims and transmission line pressures. solution: leave the battery unhooked for a few hours, or overnight. it drains all power from the pcm and resets to factory defaults. it worked for me and a couple other people
