Unless less you plan on running faster than a 9 sec 1/4 you do not need forged pistons. Get a good tune and the stock pistons will hold up fine.

I would just pick up a good used short block. Be a lot cheaper.

these blocks in stock form take retarded amounts of power when you keep the detonation in check

^yup, and keep the heat down.

Got to watch that stock piston ring gap, its set for emissions, not for racing.

i am looking to do a mild tune, pulley, headers, computer, t stat and other little gadgets (following the advise and tunes that have been posted on here) this will be my first 6 that i have ever tried to get power out of. My last project was the camaro in the picture. it and everthing else has been BB Chevy and i just figured these 3800s pistons where like every other OEM GM piston, "long lasting just dont throw any power to them"!!! This is why i joined this form cuz i just learned something, THANK YOU guys for saving me a pile of money.

have fun with the modding. you won't need to change internals until huge amounts of power like bio said. 800hp is the number i've heard thrown around if you keep low KR, and that would just be ridiculously hard to get to. you certainly won't need anything like pistons for a 3.4 setup which is about what you have in the post above.

im doing the rebuild regaurdless it burns oil and smokes like crazy. the reason for my question about the pistons is so if i get a wild hair down the road to do more i wont be limited due to crap pistions but you guys made it clear that they are good stock and i thank you guys for pointing that out.. and i called around and a used SC short block is worth its weight in gold around here so thats out of the question everyone up here is real greedy

they are all like that. you have to find someone on the forums selling stuff and you can usually get it for dramatically cheaper.

Well if that was true I wouldn’t have grenaded my number three and cracked my number one, also shot two holes through the block.

did you read the second half of the sentence? obviously something was not correct for that to happen. the block doesnt just decide to give up one day.

you probably got the cylinders too hot and the top ring gap closed up. i swear this is why all these people chip pistons and not because of knock.

    You sir are correct.

Hints my first post why I said what I said.

The stock pistons can take a beating for what your goals are, no need to go forged unless your going all out and building it from scratch balanced and blue printed and making it a mean machine that CAN take more of a beating than stock piston can.

Knock destroys rod and main bearings more than anything.
