I went ahead and started on my valve covers gasket replacement tonight and I can't get the front cover off... I also can't break the bolt that's holding the coil housing off so I dont see how there would be any other way to get this finished by tonight, I was only going for the front bank and doing the rear next week in class.. ideas?

I need to get somthing done by tonight because I dont have any other way to get to work and I didn't think this would be this bad ...

Use lube like WD 40, PB blaster, or some penetrating oil. Then try harder.

Bah, the rear one is worse.

Alt, belt tensioner, EGR bracket, and fuel rail in my case since i didn't have a magical wrench.

But i can't seem to get to the actual nut on the bolt itself.... and when i try to unbolt it from the end of that bolt it strips the threads off the tip....

    idea?

And, iv heard that from alot of people that the rears are a pain to do.. Which is why im gonna hopfully get the fronts done and get the rear done asap (mainly need time)

Sure you have the correct size wrench/socket? If you didn't, you'd strip it/round it off. Neither are good. It's metric by the way...

yea i dident have much of an issuie, get the right size socket and eat more wheeties

just an fyi for the back valve cover, for the alt. bracket, make sure you dont put the long bolt in the hole that goes over the valve cover, if so that bolt is long enough to go down into the valve cover once tightened and put a nice little hole in the valve cover. just an fyi........

you need a deep, deep socket...none of my sockets were long enough except for my 5/8 spark plug socket..it was a little loose on the bolt, but still worked fine and didnt strip it.

Slide the socket on the stud first with out the ratchet on it, then attach the ratchet to the socket, it will not go all the way in the socket, but it will let you turn it and get the nut off.

Just an fyi, its not a 10mm head, a 3/8" deep socket fits much better, 6 point of course. For the valve cover bolts.
