I think I am settling for the Intense PCM. My mods are going to be fwi, 180*, 104's, wires, catless dp, plog, 3.4 pulley. I run 93 octane fuel. My question is, about the timing tables when they tune the pcm. One of their options is about upping the timing 4 degrees if you use 93-94 octane fuel. I'm thinking I should stay away from that and just stick with the stock timing. Do you agree? Or should I go with the DHP? I want to make sure I get the right tune for my car. Too many damned options! Thanks.

DHP advances there timing around 3 or 4 degrees also. I thought I could get buy with an off the shelf tune but it advanced my timing too much. I was getting like 10* of KR. IF you can swing it go out to Indy and have PRJ tune it for you!!! YOu need to beable to adjust the fueling to get the correct AFR. In my opinion that will gain you abunch of hp.

i have a similar question, ive got an 02 GTP with 180* tstat, 3.4 pulley (thinking of going 3.25), comp cams XP cam, cold air intake and headers, and other mods (powered metal connecting rods, chorme moly pushrods, forged pistons, etc.) id like to know who has the best "box" pcm for break in and saftey for that setup. im going to get it dyno tuned but i want to get it highway worthy to drive it to get a dyno tune. who dosen't lock their pcm's. who has good "safe" tunes? the motor is freshly built and im kinda new to this part of the 3800 world. any help will be greatly appreciated.

You need to be able to scan for KR! If you don't you're gonna start melting exhaust valves. Also, KR just robs you of HP. I went back to a 3.8 and I bet I run the quarter faster. I will find out Saturday @ t&t.

The kr scanner i am holding off on until I get ready to install the pulley. I already have the 3.4 pulley(came off my regal before I sold it) so no big rush on the pulley. I have a catless dp and plog on the way. My next mod is the pcm upgrade, then the kr scanner, and lastly the pulley......granted KR is 0 before the pulley. If there is kr before the pulley, I will address it first.

If you think i'm doin this ass backwards, let me know! I have a good understanding of what needs to be done, but if I'm doing the mods out of sequence, I'd like to know. I just think the only mod I could do out of sequence is the pulley. Which of course, I don't even have to put on, I just like the extra boost it gave my regal. Thanks

fat can also make a car knock...

my intense tune was pig fat and knocked like hell. adjusted the a/f ratio some and it came down a bit.

DHP commands pretty rich timing @ wot. That's what helps them reduce KR

Actually...DHP hardly changes anything in the tables...that is why they run so good on our cars...it is people like Intense or ZZP that change too much crap and end up blowing up cars.

the dhp is deff safer than the intense tune tho. fueling was better and they dont raise timing as much. with the intense tune i was seeing around 20-21* of timing with an a/f ratio of 10.0 sometimes. knocking up to 7*.

i went back to a stock tune, raised timing to 18* got the a/f around 11.6, only knocking 2* and it raped that intense tune

if you can, i would try and get custom tuning from someone that knows somewhat what there doing. i dont know **** but i can still do better than most caned tunes.

Idk, i got the dhp back in my car and on the mods below i have some pretty bad burst knock. 1st gear from a dig i mash it no problem 1* blip until i hit second then it spikes to 14* then slowly falls off the higher the rpm. I had no knock on the stock tune so im thinking its the extra timing. Intercooler time!!

its the torque limit threshold. if you push it out a bunch farther then it wont knock at shifts like that. its trying to save your transmission. dont you have a tuner?

The dhp file I used for my tune had torque reduction For shifts turned off. That was on a dhp 1.5 file for my comp g.

i have yet to see anyone burn exhaust valves up from knock. you'll chip a piston long before that

there's no way you know if a canned tune is gonna work for your car. every one is different and for me to say that one is better than the other just isn't gonna happen

i'll say this though, with intense's track record they couldn't pay me to run their file
    L36|Topswap|3.25|NIC cam|JP Double|Comp 105s|SLP Headers|Full stainless 3" to 2.5" Y|Fully Ported Blower|ST2 TB|FWI|PT|LC-1
