    because the air/fuel get combusted and the energy used from it is used to push the cylinder back down. The left over stuff is exhaust. Most useable energy in the air fuel are used up before it gets to the exhaust.

    Yes I know that, but there's actually more exhaust gases than intake, so why does the intake need to be bigger and handle a smaller volume of gas?

    the bigger the better. this is a roots blower and will take all the flow you give it. that is why im a firm believer of an open cone.

    It is about pressure. Exhaust systems often are designed for specific backpressures and what not. On the incoming airflow you want as little resistance as possible at all times.

    The piston is pushing all the exhuast out. It is a lot easier to push things than try to pull it in with vacuum.
