I have a 98 GTP S/C. I wanted to work on an engine but driving car to wotk monday thru friday. I bought a 2000 monte carlo for the engine and tranny. for just in case. I have a book you buy at autozone for specs and torques and etc. read on there that the engine is like no other 3.8 L. 3800 Series II. That the supercharger is only an added power booster but that everything else is the same is this true.

There's a lot different between the non-supercharged 3.8L and the supercharged. Throttle body, upper intake (obviously), lower intake, heads, pistons, fuel rail, injectors, etc.

I mean I can tell on the obvious like supercharger and pulleys, intake, and fuel rails. I really meant like block, heads, cams, pistons, crank, and tranny. since i have a motor and tranny out of a 2000 monte carlo i bought for cheap. Thought maybe I can fix up M/C motor since it is out then drop it in when I finish head work, cam, you know the fun stuff. But still want it for a daily driver. Oh and another question I think my bearing on the S/C shaft is making a slight little noise. Of course the dealer doesn't have it and didn't feel like changing the whole S/C.

The n/a engines have a higher compression. You will need to have a good tune when you put the supercharger on it. The heads are also different. Does it sound like rocks rattling around in the snout? If so it is probably the coupler. There is a few write ups on how to replace it.

as far as the trannys, the differentials are different and the gearing is different. 2.92 on the sc 3800 and 3.29 on na 3800. im not sure if other parts are different, maybe someone can chime in.

Thanks on the info. Damn and the whole point was for the heads to be the same so I could of got some work done while I was still driving car. Any one looking for a motor and tranny from a 2000 monte carlo? On the Supercharger does sound like rocks. Should I be very concerned to get it done super fast or how can i replace it?

more than likely its the coupler in there.

drain the oil by unscrewing the hex head bolt on the snout. if its off the motor you could probly just tip it upside down and drain it. if not, i like to get a sprayer from like a windex bottle and squirt it into a bowl.

next take out the bolts around the snout. theres a hidden one under the snout. i think they are either 3/8", 10mm, or 13mm bolts, i cant remember. then just pull the snout off the blower. replace coupler and put it back together. not too bad. youll want 2 bottles of gm supercharger oil too. its full when the bottom threads of that drain bolt on the snout are wet after tightening. usually is 1.5 bottles iirc. this is what your replacing W Body Store

hope this helps. you can find a write up around here im sure, for pictures and specifics.
