Is it worth buying a cold air intake with the supercharger where it is without an intercooler?

I heard that the benefits of having the cold air intake are mitigated by the heating action of the supercharger, and it is more economic to just put a short ram setup on the car.

    Is this true, not true?

I can always stick a pipe and a cone filter on there, and upgrade to a CAI box later, and reuse the cone, so it's not a huge issue, I'm just curious.

oh my god!! someone finally sees my point!!

i have a cone right on my throttle body. the blower heats up the air anyway, so who cares. more flow = more power.

Yes, it will heat it up anyway, but the cooler the air starts the cooler it will be when the supercharger's rotors are done with it. When you get an IC just go open cone and let the IC do its job.

The cooler the air is upon entering the S/C the less it will be heated up.

Let's say at 1000RPM's the blower is heating the air intake charge up 30*F. Well if the air entering is 80*F then you have 110*F

What if the air entering the intake or supercharger is 50?

Exactly. Cooler more dense air. AND power.

Flow means nothing if you don't have the power to make the flow.

yea i say with a good meth injection setup or IC then go with an open cone, but otherwise a cold air is good

I think I might sell my wizair soon and get a meth kit. Then I will run a cone off the TB

I ended up ad-hocing an intake with some PVC piping and a 7inch cone filter. It sits about on top of the PCM. Driving it a bit around, I can already notice a difference in acceleration response and such. I also adore the supercharger whine...

I figure I'll pick up a wizair sometime soon and just reuse the cone with that. This only cost me 25 bucks in piping and connectors, plus the 50 for the filter, so it's not too bad for minimal effort.

i would leave it as is. the only difference youll see with a box around the cone is when youre sitting still or driving slow in traffic. anytime youre moving the air should be pretty near ambient anyway.

this is why open cones are best, because of the fact that there is so much air moving around the engine bay while youre already moving that it doesnt matter about where the cone sits. flow beats out on temperature as far as power goes.

Plus the more modded you are the better the open cone setup becomes.
