My 98' GTP when given 3/4 pedal to full WOT sputters and is jerky instead of smooth and controlled. I was told it may be the spark packs 1-6 or maybe even plugs/wires. I think the former seeing that I installed new plugs/wires about 50-60k miles ago. Any and all input is greatly appreciated!

is/has your check engine light come on at all? if so, check your plugs. my car was doing something similar to that a few months ago and i ended up having a cylinder that was misfiring so i was driving a s/c 5cyl for a couple of weeks lol hope this helps!

had the same problem... I changed my plugs and wires and it did the trick... few months later it came back and ended up being a bad MAF, but got a new one and it's all better now.

50-60K is overdue for most plugs, I run the coppers and change every 8-10k, with platinum or double platinums, I'd say 40-50K is time to change them.....High RPM misfires can be caused by plugs or wires..... Coil problems usually show up everywhere

Jerking, stuttering, or hesitating is almost always a problem with the ignition. Plugs, wires, or coils. Very rarely the ICM.

Wow thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated. I'm going to first try the coils to see if that fixes it. If still not fixed I'll do new plugs/wires. I'll report back positive or neutral changes. Thanks again. Also yes Blessed, the Check Engine light does turn on/off on occasion, and a few times turned on immediatly after hard or full acceleration.

Then it is a misfire...plugs and wires are cheaper then coil packs...do that first.

yea the coil packs are probably not the problem... they rarely fail...

Plugs on our cars do all the time unless you pay a little extra for some Platinum or Iridiums. It's a S/C car so it will burn em up good.

Wires will eventually go bad. If you want to go aftermarket they say the PRJ will fail quicker than stock. I use them, and if you are an audio guy and want a nice sound system in your car, I highly recommend to NOT get thick wires as you'll get some good radio interference. ZZP recommends you stay away from PRJ and Jacobs... yet they sell the PRJs oddly enough.

BTW here are the articles... they are worth the few minutes to read. Good info...

https://www.zzperformance.com/grand_...les1.php?id=23 <~~~ Mods you don't need (aftermarket coils, wires)

https://www.zzperformance.com/grand_...cles1.php?id=9 <~~~ information on spark plug ranges for cars (do a search on these forums as there are some nice articles about plug ranges for our cars, and in the How To section, the websites founder/owner, SyntheticShield, has a neat mod for the spark plugs.

So? They use Taylor 10.4MM wire which is what makes up the bulk of a plug wire. They're also cut to similar lengths for each cylinder in per bank which promotes consistency among the cylinders in that bank.

Sorry for the late update. It ended up actually being one of the coil packs, the lowest one. I bought three packs from Murrays and did trial and error until the faulty one revealed itself. I installed all three new packs, then began replacing the new ones with the old ones top to bottom one at a time until the problem came back again, which it did with the lowest one. Replaced and runs perfect. Thanks alot guys!
