well today i met up with Jacob (UR LOSN) to trade off some sway bars to him. we decided it would be fun to do a little highway run before we split ways. so we jaunted out onto the highway and to my surprise i was pulled by about a car length three times in a row by his GTP up to about 110.

his mods: 3" downpipe, wizaird, and a tune.

my mods: S&S headers, 1.9 rockers, ported blower, ported throttle body, open cone, alky injection (running washer fluid), and a 3.4 pulley.

if i were to have a good tune on the car i would have expected to blow his doors off by a considerable amount. it just goes to show you how much a tune is needed for a car to run tip top shape. therefore i went home, changed my spark plugs to AL103s, changed my pulley to a 3.2 and poured straight meth in my tank. i now run nearly knock free on a 3.2 with a few codes deleted and a half ass MAF tune. i want a rematch.

only the next time I will have the ported blower, rockers, and pulley on..........

What do you mean when you say half ass maf tune? Maf translator? Do you have or want HPT?

i would love to buy a tuner to be able to play with my car on my own, but i dont want to drop the dime when i have a friend who will do it for me for free. i also know that with a tune the car is going to be a whole 'nother animal. i cant wait to let this thing rip.

i did a couple MAF tunes, but that is really all ive got. a few codes deleted so i dont have misfire codes or EGR codes, but thats it.

so do you still think a 3.4 pulley on a stock gtp could beat a stock gtp

i guess it goes to show, its all in the tune.
white 04 comg G gtp. wizair, pacesetters, slp 1.8 rr
    its slow.

I try to preach this all the time, especially with the guys that think pulleys make the power. Just more proof here i guess

P.S. I have to do this... for losing to a 4 door!

a four door with a passenger.

i just havent gotten around to tuning it and ive been using my AFC and meth as a band-aid so im not knocking when im driving around my car everyday. once i get a good tune on it and slap the injectors in a fill up with e85 the car is going to be retarded fast compared to how it is now.

ive got a friend with HPT who is going to be working on my tune. he has his GTO (magnacharged with about 8 psi) dailed in damn well, so id assume that he could get my car to the same point with enough time.

Scan your car with his hpt, then have him send me the scans. I can send him a file that will be really close to what you need and all he'll have to do is a fine tweak it at the most. I've done that for numerous people, sometimes they don't even have to make any changes i've gotten the fuel trims +/-4 so they just leave it alone.

the AFC doesnt work, neither does the maf translator. you need to mess with power enrichment timing etc. ive been saying for as long as ive been here that the tune is the key to the 3800. stand by for friday when i go to the track, im gunna make a nice post for you guys

the AFC is only good for dialing in fuel trims. that is all i've used it for.

Heyy I realize this post is ages old, but could you do something similar for my GTP? I lack headers, but otherwise I have the setup I plan to run. I've only been on a baseline run, but I think the guy who did it could send you the file if I get him your info. He's a busy guy and relatively new to tuning, so he wasn't too crazy about messing with my setup. Thanks either way!
