engine oil on bottom of motor

I should know better than to listen to what the instructions says lol . ok Scotty thanks . I have Trans apart and waiting for channel plate so while I waiting I will put new pan gasket on and clean up bottom of motor . it will be nice to have no leaks under . of course that's assuming I can get the trans back together and it still works LOL . I put both Valve cover gaskets in last year cause they were leaking . so I hoping this will stop all leaks it does look like the bolts are more of the problem then the pan gasket itself . I will make sure I use thread sealer

ok thanks for all your help I put everything back together and no leaks so far .I put new trans mount and motor mount in also and the drive train is tight

Flip the upper dog bone mounts 90*, too...that'll usually help lower mount life as well and pull everything together.

the trans mount I installed new one only a few years ago and it was totally shot not sure who made it I know it was not hydraulic

Usually the fluid filled ones (hydraulic) are the ones that always fail because when they tear or crack, the fluid leaks out and the mount loses it's structure. Get a solid rubber option (you have to ask for them and when they bring the mount out, shake it. You'll be able to hear the fluid in it), so it doesn't fail in the future. Flipping the upper mounts will help with lower mount life.

No, I mean 90*.

If you flip it 180* then it's just back to it's original position.

just make em snug and then a 1/4 turn, they are small bolts.

Did the front row oil pan bolts about 4 weeks ago for a test. Checked this weekend when the daughter came home and their no oil dots on those bolts and their was on the back ones so I did those on Sunday. Hobbes on the thread sealer pretty heavy. I will report back in a few weeks.

Checked the pan bolt heads again on Saturday. They still did not have any oil dots on them. The leak rate in general seems less but still leaking towards the rear seal of the pan. Maybe a qt in 4000 miles and she does not park at home much more so don’t really have dots on the driveway so will probably just monitor till she gets a new ride down the road.

these engines are known to eat oil, a missing qt every 3000 miles is not unheard of. gm says its normal too. if you got over 100,000 miles its way normal.

Yep it has 212000 and oil is still cheap.

id have her get used to setting the trip at each oil change leave it on trip, when it hits 3,000 start making plans for a oil change, at least check it, fill if need be.
