My tail lights on my 97 gtp coupe are in need of replacing, I order some spyder led tail lights. Everyone seems to like them and they look pretty good, however I wasn't able to get them to fit on my car the body of the tail light hits the body of the car before the tail light goes in all the way. It has to go in about another inch and a half before its in properly (yes, the 3 tail lights studs line up in the holes and go in) . I couldn't find anything anywhere about anyone else having this fitment issue with these taillights
I have 2 97 gtp coupes one with a build date of 11/96 and one 2/97 and its the same thing for both. Did anything change for the body around the tail light for the 98 and up years?

The body is still the same, nothing on the outside for the tail lights changed.

I'd email the vendor and tell them about the issue and see what they have to say.

Mine were tight to i had to ream the holes out where the studs go in and they fit really good. I've had them on the car for years with no issues.

Yup, you have to ream the holes with a file to make them fit properly. Almost nothing from Spyder fits properly on our cars.

I took a drill bit that just barely fit through the holes already there and wobbled the drill around to make the holes slightly bigger. It was still a tight fight it helps to grab the stud and pull it while pushing on the taillight at the same time. You will actually hear the threads of the studs click as they go by the sheet metal when you push it in.

I used a cheap $2.99 thin file from home depot to widen the holes. Make sure to put a little paint over the widened holes to help prevent rust.

Yep, thanks for the advice i used a drill and slightly enlarged the holes as well as widened them towards the outside of the car so i have room for adjustment once i put the tail light in, after that got it lined up nice and put the 3 plastic hand screws back in and once i tightened them up that pulled the tail light right in and it was pretty much perfect.
