you need to take the blower, tb and lim and oil pan alt bracket and alt off your cars engine, then put it all in place of the 97 engines parts, it all wires right back up.

Series II and Series III engines use the same block.
Off your old engine you will need.
    • Alt
    • Alt bracket
    • lower intake manifold
    • supercharger
    • oil pan
    • engine mount bracket
    • fuel rail
    • injectors
    • throttle body

Also do as Scott suggested and replace every gasket except the head gaskets.

I highly doubt the engine blew up in 12 miles from you downshifting that would break the trans well before it would spin a bearing. Your friend's dad is full of crap.
My bet is they knew the engine was bad and unloaded it onto some sucker(you) and now he is offering to fix it for you with a "discount".

Thanks, this swap sounds a lot easier than I thought.

Btw, I didn't mention it since it wasn't the topic of discussion but the car actually has been sitting for 4-5 years and probably hasn't been started in 2. 149k, but I spent 2 weeks doing a tune up, bunch of new stuff and all new fluids. It was his daily for the previous 5 years before that as well and he didn't have any issues. I guess we'll never know

Was it sitting in a garage? That car looks very clean to have been sitting for 4-5 years.
Either way the tap shift had nothing to do with the engine spinning a bearing.

Haha. That's after I spent a good 30 hours detailing it
