They're not lies, The P0420 code is for the cat threshold efficiency....which is what you're thinking of.
Josh is talking about the cat diagnostic programming for 2001 and up cars. Two different things you guys are arguing over.

the p0420 is NOT a cat diagnostics code. The cat Diagnostics without a rear o2 will cause that code. The P0420 simply says the cat may not be working right.

you just said it. that code comes up because the cat may not be working properly which means there is an efficiency problem..

Denso 02, $26 on rockauto and will last forever, but meh let's just keep replacing $72 Bosch ones every 6 months. Anybody checked the price of Bosch stock lately? May need to scoop a few shares up.

and cat converters too because those bosch o2s will keep dumping raw fuel into the cat.

True, I haven't run with a cat on any wbody for more than a month, same with egr, so that completely slipped my mind. At least the old ones are recyclable, get a little money back from it.
