I have an 04 grand prix that has developed a horrible knock after an oil change and have come to the conclusion I need to another engine in a bad way. Well I found an engine and it happens to be a 97 camaro. Question is will it work?

Thanks for the reply. This is my first swap so entire top end? Like intake manifold fuel rails and such?
Yeah, the block is the same. So you just need to swap you lower intake, upper intake, fuel rail over and do new gaskets.
You also need to swap your oil pan/pick up tube aswell. Basically re-seal the motor before install.
Alright thank you guys
Will the heads from the camaro engine work
What's n/a sorry never done a swap
naturally aspirated and yes the heads will work.
Alright well it's looking more and more like the engine I had lined up is gonna fall through... with that said thinking about going super charged. Besides the engine would I need the ecm and pcm as well?
So I could keep the existing electronics just need it tuned? Even if it's a factory charged 3.8?
Alright thank you I need to do something asap as the car it's my only one and Idk how much longer I have before it throws a rod so the responses and advice are very much appreciated
the n/a 3800 should be rather abundant in local junk yards and such. they are rather cheap too. like 300 to 400 for a good used one.
they are in more then camaros regals or GP's. newer buick cars have the 3800 too.
try carpart.com too
I been searching around I had an engine I know runs lined up but it appears to be falling thru so now I'm scrambling to figure something out. The localish pull a part has a couple that fit my very tight budget. Just have reservations about junk yard engines lol
you can do some tests to make sure its good. check the oil, make sure its just oil, and so what clean smeelin. take a valve cover off, if the rockers are nice and clean thats a winner.
then if you want to get crazy you can bring in a battery and jumper cables, (to jump the starter motor) and do a compression test before pulling it.
Gonna screen shot this reply very helpful cuz I wouldn't have an idea on where to start in checking a junk yard engine thank you
