lifters, reason it sounds like bottom end is because the lim and valve covers are aluminum which intensifies the sound making it sound like a rod or bearing

I can't get the video to upload. I started tearing in to the upper end today. My game plan is to get down to the lifters. If the problem is not there, and looks lower engine, either part out the car or drop in a new engine....

Created a members rides thread for myself where I put down the work I did on the car the other day. If anyone is following this thread, can you link over and see the new problem and let me know what you think? Thank you!

Has anyone ever had to "prime" their oil pump after rebuilding upper end of engine only? From what i'm reading for my cars issue, either my oil pump needs to be primed or i have a blockage somewhere...

did you change the lifters? if so did you soak them in oil over night? if not it could just be they still need to pump up, this can take a few minutes some times and the car will sound like crap as the rockers are clapping all over.

easy way to prime the engine if you think it will help. this is more for when you took the pump out and the whole bottom end has been drain and left dry.

take all the plugs out, then crank the engine over for 20 seconds at a time. do this a few times, watch your oil pressure gauge. if you dont have one you can install a test gauge (free rental) in the oil pressure sensor hole while you prime it, just cranking it you should see oil pressure building up.

leave the test gauge in when you fire it up and watch the pressure. if its under 20 psi @ idle after a few minutes of running shut it off theres something wrong.

Lifters changed and soaked. All the issues with the car started after I changed the oil. It sat dry for a few hours as I had to deal w/ my kids and run to the store as well. So I'm wondering if that caused an issue with the oil pump or something. I'll try your priming suggestion before I go fishing for an issue with the oil pump or a clogged passage.

even if i fill the new oil filter after a oil change it knocks a few times when first fired up. if thats what your hearing, i mean like 3 or 4 knocks then stops. its fairly normal.

the lifters could also need some more time to pump up fully. priming the engine should take care of that.
