Ok so I've changed the water pump, the two plastic elbow pieces, and my 2006 V6 3800 series iii Grand Prix engine is still leaking out real bad once you start the car. The water pump is dry but back behind it you can see fluid running down, is there a gasket back there somewhere that's leaking or LIM? The hardest part about this fix thus far has just been finding out where it's coming from. Thanks in advance for any help!

did you clean the hole out real good where the elbows go into the timing cover, the lim and both holes of the bracket? if not they could be leaking.

the timing cover can leak coolant but its sorta rare.

Cleaned those out real good and they are dry. As far as the timing cover and lim I'm not even really sure of their location to be honest. I know what's not leaking and that's the water pump, thermostat, the elbows, radiator, two main hoses, gasket on drivers side of engine.

the water pump is bolted to the timing cover, also the lower elbow inters the timing cover as well.

I'm guessing that's probably the issue then b/c it seemed like it was coming from that side. How difficult is that to change in your opinion? The water pump and elbows were actually pretty easy for me...

i have not done it myself on a 3800 but have on older pontiac engines, its all the same really. you just need to take the alt bracket, the 4 long bolts out from the water pump. the oil pan bolts and the bolts around the outside of the cover its self.

when you did the water pump, did you use thread sealant on the 4 long bolts? if not they could leak.

you could also add some dye to the coolant, then look for the leak that way.
