Hi Guys,
I decided to join this site after reading a lot of the post and over all great information. My problem is for my 04 L26 series III non supercharged.
When going down the freeway my car would start to overheat but would never get to "redline". This has been doing this for 1.5 years. When getting off the freeway temp would go back down to middle of gauge after about a 1/4 mile. I replaced the radiator and thermastat as well as flush but with same result. When I took the old radiator apart it was in perfect condition with zero corrision or build up. Since I live in Phoenix I decided to buy a Head gaskit kit and do the whole top of the engine. I bought DNJ from Rock Auto. The UIM and LIM were bad as well as the seal on the water pump. So far so good.
Cleaned everything up (very easy) and I'm proceeding to install the head gaskets. The ones from DNJ are exactly the same but everything I have read there should be a right and left. When your put the arrows to the front of the engine the Top and Bottom of the gaskets are reversed. Can you install them this way? I have looked for the torque sequence many times and I get different answers off the net. Almost all information is on the series II engines which are far more troublesome.
Are the Head bolts tightend the same or are the middle 4 tighter?
Are the gasket the same or different from DNJ?
LIM sequence mentions vertical bolts are tightened first and then side bolt. does anyone have the sequence and torque spec's for Series III? Thanks in advance for all your help.
