Heating Issue

Hi guys...I have a 2005 GT...I Wasn't getting any heat or very very little (but running in norm temp zone) so I figured I would change the thermostat, maybe it was stuck open......this however wasn't the case but i changed it anyways. I figured I would ask the experienced people here as someone may have had the same issue. I'm thinking maybe the heater core is plugged up......I've looked for coolant leaks but cannot see any....any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

with the car warmed up, grab the 2 hose off the alt bracket, if they are both hot, your core is fine. could be the blend door actuators.

if you find the hose are cold, or one hot, one cold, then take the hoses off and flush the core.

what 2 hoses...the elbows?...or the 2 hoses at the firewall that feed the heater core?....what are blend door actuators?

While driving you should have the auto heat on correct..??? Or does it even matter?

Think I'm goin to try this in a few mins... My car seems like it takes a lil too long to get warm air coming out of the vents....

coolant flows to the heater core all the time, (even when the a/c is on) theres no shut of valve like on older cars.

Thanks Scottydoggs for info...i'll check the hoses and ask another question ...my car is not equipped with dual climate controls ..so would there just be one blend door actuator?

not 100% sure on that.

feel the hoses, then go from there.

The top heater core hose is hot the bottom is not(i'm assuming the bottom is the return) ...think the heater core was the problem.....i'll post back after i flush core or even replace it if need be.. thx again.

The heater core flush worked for me, and it persuaded me to ditch the dex-cool and use the regular green prestone.

Can you use regular antifreeze in these newer cars? i have a 2000 model. I know your not supposed to mix them but didnt know if you could flush system and use the old type. What persuaded you to switch?

most of us have switched to green coolant. its safe to do so. just flush all the dex cool out good.

the reason being dex tends to snot up when in contact with air, just look at your over flow tank, all that nasty brown crap on the sides. thats what happens when air hit is.

i see brown sludgy stuff in radiator.... was worried the head gasket might be leaking a lil or something..... ill consider the swap. thank you for the info.

Make sure you thoroughly flush it, you wouldn't believe the amount of sh*t that came out of my car.

I changed due to the anti freeze "gums" up over time...it has a 5 year life but i changed my dex cool every 2 years and my heater core still needed flushed....that was enough for me to change,,....and yes you cant mix them, so I flushed my whole system before using the regular prestone....hope that answered your question. Obviously if it's a newer car and you switch the regular anti-freeze it voids some kind of waranty...but in my case I didn't have one so it was a no brainer for me
