So just curious does higher octane fuel make any difference on a n/a 3.8 with a stock ecu? I diddnt see anything on the site about this other than 91 octane in the gtp. Just figured id ask..

need to tune for 91 octane if you need/want more power from it, im tuned for 91 octane
Only way higher octane will help that car is if your engine is knocking on regular fuel. If you have a KR scanner then you can find out.
Higher octane better resists knocking, so that would lead to the benefit of proper spark timing resulting in slightly more power.
Straight from overkills sight under n/a pcm tunes
"87 vs 91+ octane The 3800 V6 engine is modestly suceptible to engine knock/ping/preignition when compared to its peers. If you're purchasing a tune and looking for the most horsepower, we can do the most for you if you're willing to run 91+ octane. If you're purchasing for a noticeable performance increase during daily driving, improved transmission life and behaviour, and fuel economy, the 87 octane tune will provide the benefits you're looking for. With breathing modifications such as exhaust work including downpipe, an intake system and ZZP HV3/rockers, 91+ octane benefits are available with 87 octane. "
And since these cars knock from the factory 99.9% of the time, run 91, spend a couple extra bucks at fill up, and your car will love you more since you'll be getting rid of all that knock.
oops(thankyou mech).
just listen to mech guy lol
Never noticed any difference in 87/91 octane performance, etc, BUT---- if you fill up with cheapo gas like Arco/Pilot, whatever, the varying amounts of added ethanol deffinately will give you performance probs in way of gas mileage--- lower. Saw somewhere that gas retailers can now add up to 15 percent ethanol and not even have to post or label it.
