I have a 2006 3.8 natural aspirated with 120101 miles on it. will it hurt my motor if i used Lucas oil stabilizer in oil?
No that stuff is pretty good stuff.
Will it hurt your engine? Well, probably not if you use it per the instructions. The thing is neither GM nor would I recommend putting anything into your oil. Lucas has fine products but good name brand oil has nothing to benefit from it. Oil stabilizer sounds fancy but it is mostly just a viscosity index changer that is already used in many GF-5 oils. So you’re basically paying for something you already have at best. And a at worst your messing with your normal oils formulation reducing its performance. IMHO if you run brand name “high mileage” oil and change it every 5k you are never going to have an oil issue.![]()
good info about the oil analysis and air filter.
I'd be curious on different oil filters.
Now, I have a GM pickup and grand prix, both 2002 with the oil light. I've found the light sometimes comes on at close to 3k a lot of the time, 3-4k, so I think they are pretty good. I do agree though, if you drive further between stops, you can expect the oil to last longer. I run Mobil 1 in the truck and Valv dino in the car and I change the car between 3-4 regardless, and I don't worry about the truck so much even if light goes on, but truck gets changed 4-5k regardless.
On the oil analysis, before we are too quick to judge K&N, must mention that I hope the K&N unit was installed such that a good seal was obtained.
I know from installing a new air filter a week ago that it is hard to get/ensure a proper seal unless the air filter cover is completely removed during the install process. A friend of mine showed me the trick of loosening that hose clamp, pull the accordian piece back off the cover, then rotate the accordian section (unplug sensor) to point upward, THEN, remove the cover completely. Makes access so much easier and much easier to get the new filter in and the cover back on correctly.
I go 8-9K miles on Mobil 1 0W30 using either a Mobil 1 or K&N filter or occasionally a PureONE filter. This is 99% highway miles and I avoid short drives whenever possible.
