So I always see guys posting about how much can they throw a Top swap setup together for cheap to get more HP and well you get the idea. My question is what is the biggest amount of HP I can gain from staying N/A? What would I need? How big would the gains be? I have a general idea but would like to see what others with more info think. Thanks.

The cost to do an NA build would be worthless when you can just go top swap and gain far more horse power for the amount of money you're about to spend.

Well actually im not doing anything outrageous just throwing an air intake on it which im sure I know is by far way cheaper then a top swap. Other then that nothing else that has to do with gaining HP. Just wondering thats all.

modified rocker, headers, and a tune should get you there. (i'm just guessing, don't actually know. But it should put you up there somewhere)

    Hmmm,

stock N/A cars make about 160-170 to the wheels bone stock.

Intake might net you 5 wheel horse if you had a dirty filter prior to install.

I'd say, GT2 Cam or ER Rockers, 105 springs, TransGo shift kit, Poly Mounts, Custom WB Tune, GTP Injectors, Ported L67 TB, L26 UIM/HV3 Insert, Catless Headers...

Should be good for 200-210 FWHP. Which would probably be enough to beat a bone stock GTP, or a knocking one like Cody's. Bam.

Cost? Maybe a grand, if you source your parts correctly and you can do the work your self.

Then, GTP puts 3 simple things on his car, pulley/headers/tune...and it makes 40+ more WHP and poops on you.

GT2 cam, Headers, HV3 insert, HV TB, Tune

good thing about this is if you later deside to go SC the headers and cam will still help. and you can get some money back reselling the HV3 and TB

This is a dyno of my friends stock 1999 Grand Prix GT, right in line with what they make on this type of dyno, SAE corrected.
Anyway, after headers, HV3, ported heads, GT2 cam, intake, n*/LQ4, and a custom tune done by me it made........

    175whp.

I've been asking this question too and honestly bro it's not worth it. If you're going to keep your car N/A then leave it stock. If you want to sink some money into it and want to do it right, get a used turbo kit, slap that bad boy on, a few supporting mods, go till your tranny dies, then sell car or purchase new tranny.

EDIT: Not really a do it right type scenario that I just described but it's one of many options to go with and I know members suggest to go turbo and save some money up.

Well after further review I will probaley keep my gt until next year then sell it and buy a gtp lol. I just wanted to know what could be done to the car but after seeing this I guess the only way to get a decent amount of power would be to top swap.

you have to know someone who does work for ya for free pretty much. and wait for family/friends to buy parts for ya like christmas and holidays lol.
u-bend deleted-$0(mechanic is friend was easy for him)
    cold air intake-$50 with filter.
91 custom tune by overkill-$250. (christmas present from wife, cont me 0$)
shorty downpipe(already had downpipe deleted)-$70(if you buy a brand new one it will delete the u-bend also,)
HV3-230 taxes in.(birthday present from brother cost me 0$)
none of my other mods actually add horse power.

If you do a top swap correctly, you'll have spent the same as a turbo and go slower.

Selling your car isn't a good idea if you've already put money into replacing other components.

You might have to do that with the new car as well
