Thread: 2000 gt keeps stalling no ses light

My car started stalling pretty randomly a couple of days ago. Accelerating, braking and cruising. Each time it would start back up fine and I would be on my way. Also no lights came on either to indicate a problem.

I did some searching on here and it looked like it was the crankshaft position sensor it was stalling randomly with no ses light. I replaced that and drove for two days(~150 miles) with no issues. I thought it was fixed.

Today I go to leave work and it stalled imediatley. Tried to start it again and the idle was up and down all over the place then it died. Still no ses light though.

Could it have fault codes in the system and not light up the check engine light? What else should I try to diagnose this issue?

Finally got a chance to try what you said. I drove it for about 20 minutes and it seemed ok. The idle still seems kind of low at about 700 when it was warmed up.

Also the SES light came on now. I am assuming this is due to the MAF being unplugged? Is it ok to drive the car for a little bit until I find a new one?

The low idle could be the result of the car running off the pre-programmed tables and not using the actual MAF as it normally does. This should resolve itself once you clean/replace the MAF.

I picked up some crc maf cleaner but it looks like I need a special tool to get the maf out. It looks like a security torx bit but all I have is a standard torx. Gotta run to the hardware store now to see if they have any.

Took out the maf, cleaned it, and put it back in. I drove around the block a few times and it seems ok. Going to drive it some more and hope it stays that way.

The SES light is still on. Should it go out by itself now that the MAF is plugged back in or do I have to disconnect the battery to reset it?

Drove the car to school and it stalled twice at the same light after about 20 minutes of driving. This was with the MAF plugged in. Looks like the cleaning didn't help. I guess I have to unplug it and look for a replacement.

Got a new one from rock auto a couple of weeks ago. Cost $126 shipped. So far no stalling issues so I am gonna say it is fixed. Thanks for every ones help.
