Rebuild cost

What's causing the rod knock? Does it have a bent rod? If so what caused that rod to bend?

Generally if something internal goes bad, something else caused it to do so...

Check craigslist for a used engine. Any Series II 3800 will work. Grand Prix, Monte Carlo, Impala, Regal, Bonneville, etc.. Just re-use your accessories if needed. I picked mine up for $350 out of a wrecked 01 GT. Runs like a champ!

And in order to have yours rebuilt properly, you will spend more than the $700 the JY priced a motor for. Especially since you will have to buy all new pistons/rings, bearings for everything, and possibly a crank if yours is shot. That's assuming that the heads are good and the block is good as well. It all adds up rather quick.

Just grab a good longblock and go from there. All in all I spent about $650 total on mine and that was with replacing the entire UIM, new LIM gaskets, oil pan gaskets, etc while it was out.

Yes. Same longblock though. Just swap over your LIM/UIM and other parts/brackets and on you go. You will also want to install your current knock sensors IIRC, as they can differ. I'm sure Bill or someone can clarify if this is necessary.
