the fact of the matter is the less restrictive the intake the better. the problem with your thought process is that you think cold air is better. please do some googling to your hearts desire and figure out why we are all saying this. we are not just telling you things for fun. we are right, you are wrong.

cold air is more dense and helps make power, but ability to flow will ALWAYS outweigh the 'coolness' of the air considering the difference is MAYBE 15* or so at the absolute most. the timing tables in the PCM only adjust maybe 1* of timing from absolute coldest you can get to super hot temperatures. therefore, just about zero power gain. get your facts straight, jump on board with the rest of us, and learn a little bit before you try and tell people things you know nothing about.

hense why i tell people just to make a short ram when they are n/a or lightly modded. get it kinda near the fender and drop the temps a few degrees for fun. you dont need the flow characteristics with those setups.

My PCM is just laying there, and I had to drive through over 2 1/2ft of water when the hurricane came in, Im sure it got submerged. But almost 3 years later and still pullin.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

just had a strange thought I have a functioning GTX hood the air box is an open top so the air just dumps in there would I gain anything by scrapping the box altogether?

    No, not really.

If anything, gut the front of the box for more flow.

Get a high flowing panel element filter.

Replace the corrugated tubing between the airbox and the filter.

    That's it.

If you already have a cone intake set up, just keep it.

I made my FWI for the cost of a low profile Spectre cone filter, plus a coupler, a roof baffle, and some PVC which I painted black, and can be found at home Depot. Took about an 1:30 to install because I'm a perfectionist. Has a nice roar at WOT and gave me a bit more throttle response/mpg.

Just take off your wheel well/splash guard and seal it up before you do it, it barely gets water in it stock. I live in PA, I understand deep puddles :P
