HI, I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix. The car has been quite reliable for the most part, but recently once I crank the key it takes around 3-5 seconds to turn over. I've recently purchased a new battery, starter, and fuel pump. So those are automatically ruled out. I was told the culprit of the problem could possibly be the FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator). Help please!!!

Pull the rubber vacuum hose off the FPR. If there is gas in the hose, you need to replace the FPR.

Other than that, you mention that you recently put in a new fuel pump. Was it a stock GM one? Or aftermarket pump? Could be the difference in fuel pumps.

Ok, I can do that. And it was an OEM Fuel Pump. Firestone replaced it. They get all of their parts from the napa store at the location I go to.

Does it have to crank that long all the time? Does it start faster in the morning
as apposed to the afternoon? or when the engine is warmed up?

Yes. Everytime it sits overnight and I start in the morning its not a problem. And it does seem to take about 3-4 secs to catch when the engine is warm. I took it to the dealership a few days ago and they told me my fuel filter was clogged. I got it replaced and i'm getting a better idle but it's still doing the same thing. Would it be the egr valve or spark plugs?

X2 most hard starts are caused by the FPR bleeding off pressure from the shutdown to the restart
