Pull the rubber vacuum hose off the FPR. If there is gas in the hose, you need to replace the FPR.

Other than that, you mention that you recently put in a new fuel pump. Was it a stock GM one? Or aftermarket pump? Could be the difference in fuel pumps.

X2 most hard starts are caused by the FPR bleeding off pressure from the shutdown to the restart
