I just bought a 98 pontiac grand prix gt. I'm looking at converting it to a gtp. I'm getting mixed info and someone I was buying parts from told me to ask about it on here, and that you guys would have an answer for me. I want to start off by saying I'm coming from a tuning and rebuilding hondas background. My question is can you put a GTP (3.8 supercharged) top end on a GT (3.8) block? I know that the compression will be different from just dropping in a whole GTP (3.8 supercharged). With hondas, for example if you take a LS (B18) block and put on a LS VTEC (B16) head the compression ratio is different but with the compression being different and figuring in when VTEC kicks in, initially your getting more horsepower. My concern with doing this with a grand prix is that this isn't any other rice rocket. I have also been told that the GTP motor has slanted pistons and that a GT has flat pistons. With that said 1) is that the cause for the compression difference and 2) is that possibly the reason why this can not be done? The next concern I have is I have a GTP engine lined up for $300. It's out of a 00 GTP and has 71,000 miles on it. I'm debating on buying it and rebuilding it the way I want to. I've been told that the 97-98 GTP were different from the 99-03 GTP (compression, HP, set up, etc.) I just dont want my car to go fast and go BOOM! If anybody can give me some guidance or advice it would be much appreciated. Thanks
