I recently bought a 2000 GP SE with 3.8 n/a only to find that there was coolant in the oil and 2 freeze plugs missing. I knew it had to be kinda serious problem but, went ahead and put new freeze plugs, upper and lower intake gaskets, pcv valve, thermostat, upper plentum, coolant and oil on it. After all the repairs where done I started it for about 2 minutes and shut it back down. When I pulled the dipstick I found it was all milky once again and the radiator was missing quite abit of coolant.

I was thinking of changing the head gaskets now. But, Im thinking that as quickly as the coolant is geting in the block and the fact that there where 2 freeze plugs missing that I am dealing with an internaly cracked block. So, I scratched that ideal.

I bought a wrecked 2001 GP GTP 3.8 sc with 63k on it. What I am trying to find out is if I can just pull both motors and just swap them out. I have read many threads on hear about the top swap but its my L36 that is trashed and not the L67. I dont know if I need to swap motors, trannys and diff or just motor. I know alot of threads talk about the HD tranny but, I am unsure of what I have.

If any one can give me some advice on what direction I should go I would greatly appreciate it. What all I need to swap if its even possible or if there is something else I should be looking at.

    Thanks, Benji

youre going to want to just swap the motors. youll want the gearing you have in your car right now with the low compression motor. you need to swap the flex plate though so you have the one that matches your converter.

other than that youll need a new tune to run the L67 since the L36 PCM doesnt know what the hell boost is.

Thanks Bio248, I thought that was the right direction but, just wanted someone to confirm it for me. Im pretty mechanicly inclined and dont want to sound like a complete idiot but, will it work to change the PCM work out of the GTP when I swap motors? If not, I talked to the Chevy dealer here in town and they said the could do the tune. Trying to figure which is best. Also, when I do the swap will the wiring harness have to be changed out or need to get an adapter or something?

    Thanks

you cant use the PCM from either car because you are going to be mismatching transmissions and motors.

investigate a little more. i dont believe for one second that a dealership will tune your car. they more than likely dont even have the software to do it.

the wiring harness needs one adapter: MAP connector. you will also have to make a choice to either wire in the BBV or to disable it and run it vacuum controlled. id read up in the top swap thread for this answer.

I dont know if the dealership knows what Im talking about but, I told them what I was going to do and they said they could. If they cant do it I did some more research on here and found a place called PRJ Performance in Indy. Do you know anything about them? I looked on there website and they claim they can do about whatever you want. I just have to let them know what Im changing. I know that they motor Ill be putting in is a L67 but what is the tranny in the 2000 and is there anymore info that they will need.

    Thanks

I hope that after I get this project done and it works out perfectly that I can help someone on here myself with there questions.
