So i am wondering, if you can put a 5.3 in a 1997-2003 grand prix.. Can you put an aluminum block 5.7 in there??? I would imagine you could use the 5.3 transmission, wire harness, possible computer too??? but not sure anyone have any ideas or thoughts?? I just love the way V8's sound compared to anything else.

i dont see why not, computer for the 5.3 wont work though, are you thinking LS2?

the bellhousing should be the same, I dont see any issues but the computer.

I thought about doing the LS4 in mine but that would be too much of a pain in the butt when it comes to the pcm. That would make one hell of a sleeper though.

well being that the grand prix is a front wheel drive vehicle and the LS2 is predominantly rear wheel, good luck with that. There is a guy over on LS1tech who is swapping in an LS2, IIRC, into a 308 and I believe he was creating a custom bell housing in order to use the 4T65. Not much progress has come along since last year tho.

Like GTP 98 said tho, your best bet would be to do an LS4 swap, especially being that the 05-08 Grand Prix had them as an option.

the 5.7 and 5.3 dimensions on the block are the same. the bellhousing bolt pattern should be the same with all of their 90 degree small blocks

you can prolly tune the ls4 cpu to work with the 5.7. but in missouri there is a late model junk yard, mainly sports cars, over 500 ls motors at at that place. He sells the engines, harness and cpu together.

I have seen someone do the swap somewhere on the web, ls1 into 97-03 using alot of gxp parts anyway. I'll try to dig it up.

    EDIT:

Not the site I originally found but his post on clubgp should suffice,

Before the LS4 GM put a LS1 into an Impala as a concept. They had to shave the crank, modify all the accessories, create a custom water pump, and make an adapter plate for the bell housing. Here's the article:

LS-1 Powered Impala SS - Feature - GM High-Tech Performance
2004 Impala LS - got some mods sold!!!
    2009 Subaru Impreza WRX STI
