There was a pretty heated thread over this on CGP a while back. A lot of people were bashing the MSD coils. People didnt back their claims of them being crappy with any kind of tech support. One guy finally added in the main reason people have issues is improper grounding. He claimed to run them on all of his racing vehicles and dirt vehicles with no issues. He had a buddy who said his crapped out. He said it was a ground issue and when he fixed that his buddy had no problems.
Anyway, I am a bit off on a tangent, I have had mine going on 2 years without a single issue. I dont know about any performance gains. I first did it for dress up under the hood. I think I noticed a little better throttle responce. Seemed a bit crisper. But thats just opinion, I have no factual proof. Hopefully someone adds to this because I was curious myself what exactly the gains if any were claimed to be.

the coils are not the same as the ignitions (the ignition boxes need the ground the coils plug in) I have an msd coil on my bravada, and it has been replaced under warranty 3 times, msd finally admitted they do not make the coils, they are made by someone else that also makes aftermarket replacements (probably gp sorenson or borg warner as they are the 2 big companies) they did not machine the electrical connections correctly, and the wires will pull out after a while, as far as helping, unless you are at the edge of your coil I doubt you'll see much if any improvement (less than 5 hp would be my guess which is the variance of most dynos)

Umm I lost damn near 10hp on the dyno.

Ran the car, had a set of msd in the trunk. Took all of 5 min to swap out ran the car lost 9hp. Swapped back out for stock dynoed again and gained 7hp over the pass with the msd.

    Waist of money

i would not wast the money on it.
Only value they had is look good with a nice modded engine.

People really under estimate gms stock ignition.

My brother has been going to school up at wyotech and he's talked to me about getting mine changed. He compared the actual performance ratings on them and said that the msd coils where much much better for the simple fact of the lower resistance on them. He said with the lower resistance it generates a better/larger spark and that when i did change them i could increase the gap in my plugs to get best performance gain out of them.

hmm...some other guy talked about how he lost hp putting MSDs in and he dynoed it...so now he has his stocks back in...also another quick question have any of you painted your stock coils or know someone who has...what kind of paint did you use?..curious..

they are just plastic so any plastic paint should be fine, they don't get that hot (someone recently did paint theres on here though)

I have heard mixed reviews of them as well. to me it is a personal preference. I look at what the drag cars have. if it works for them....there must be a reason behind it.

but it is up to you.....not us.
