Hello all! I am new here, due to the fact that as of today I am a new owner of a 2001 GP GT! YAY!! We got a good deal on it because it needs some tlc and some repairs. We KNOW it needs new front wheel bearings. The question I have is if they can be rebuilt, or if we have to buy the whole hub. It can't be driven until they are fixed (that bad) but seems that rebuilding may be more cost effective, if possible. Can anyone tell me if it can be done, and then how?

    Thanks so much,

    Lauren

I have never heard of them being able to be rebuilt. You can buy them new for about 110 bucks.

I kept a known bad bearing from a Grand Prix around and one from another vehicle I repaired last year with the intentions of exploring the possibility of rebuilding them and adding a grease fitting.

On my '89 GP, when I owned that one I worked in a machine shop and had connections to get timken bearings really cheap. When the drivers side wheel bearing went bad on it, I pulled it off and successfully dismantled it replaced the bearing in it and it worked fine, but I had access to presses that could apply the force needed to push the the bearing part out, and that bearing did not have the wheel speed sensor to contend with.

But for now, I will echo the replies of others and say it is much better and easier to just replace the thing.
