if you pour a quart of dextron 3 in your oil tank, drive your car for 200 miles, then change the oil to w.e oil u prefer, tada problem solved. sounds crazy, but it works. for real.
yes u r correct. and like i said its the craziest thing ive ever heard too. a mechanic/ good friend told me about this trick on my old car, and sure enough it works!
can anyone else verify this?
It's not really THAT good for the motor...when you change your oil just go with a thicker weight...say...10W-30. Then add a cup or so of a solvent called Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I use it every oil change in the GF's Ecotec Cavy because it ticks like a somebish. Use it in the DD Slobalt too. Way better than tranny fluid and it is safe to use all the time. Or if you hate it enough...get new lifters
haha i should of done all new lifters when i did that damn intake gasket. DAMNIT! well maybe ill try something. im trying different brands of oils, but nothing sparked it yet to somewhat keep it quite. Out of curiosity, what do you think a new set of lifters will cost? i have a roller motor i remember.. thanks
Yes the tranny fluid is very high in detergent great for cleaning, just not to long, but on the other hand I know of old mech. that always add a half a quart at every oil change,
As for the lucas you might want to check this out
What about Additives?
I'm new to the forums and GM's in general, but the Lucas Oil Stabilizer has helped my "sticky lifter" problem every time I've changed oil. It lubricates the cylinder walls better and keeps them lubricated even when the engine is off. I have to add it whenever I change oil but it keeps it from sounding like 2 midgets fighting with hammers when I start it up
Run a bottle of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner in the tank. May want to run a second, one tank later. Then do a top engine clean using GM Top Engine Cleaner from the dealer. Both very good products to clean injectors, valves, value guides, piston tops and carbon. A friend of mine is a GM World Class Technician, not many techs get this title and swears by both of these products!
If you have carboned, or sticky valves, using a thicker weight oil will not necessarily get to go away and is not fixing the issue.
