Thread: Quick question about transmission swap?

Hi all once again. I guy I know is letting me have a transmission real cheap. He said it's out of a '98 or '99. I was just wondering if it'll work? I think it should my car is a 2000 model. Both are Grand Prix's. If it will work what are some precautions I should take. What is the easiest way to swap it? Do I need to completely drop the engine and trans together, or what should I do? I recently put all new solenoid in my trans, so I plan to swap all of them over to the new one. Are there any write ups on the trans swap?

are both cars supercharged or n/a? if your na you need a na tranny. if sc, you need the hd tranny.

Neither cars are supercharged. I've just heard of people swapping the trans and the shift patterns being off, and I've searched online for transmissions for this before and it seems that every single one is year specific.. What I mean by that is, I've searched on eBay and car-part.com and when I type in 2000 Grand Prix transmission, the only transmissions that pop up are from 2000 model cars. But I've also seen other people swap in tranny's from other years.. so I'm just a little iffy. Thank you for the info, I will look that up.
