So I have a 2004 grand prix gtp comp g. The tranny acts up. A lot. Sometimes my car will shift a little hard. That doesn't bother me. But, when it's cold, I can get up to 35mph and it slips out of gear. It'll go back into gear if I floor it but then it slams into gear. I read it would my pressure control solenoid. Is this true? How do I replace it? When I do it, I am also installing a shift kit! Any help would be great!

I found this for solenoids. Would this and a shift kit solve most of my problems!?

    reset?

    No.

If there are issues with slipping and if a filter change/pan drop/shift kit doesn't change anything, then it sounds like it's time for a rebuild.

    Hopefully you didn't flush it.

The tranny has 80k on it. It was replaced by a mechanic. But the warranty doesn't cover used trannys. It did this right when I bought it (3 days after install). I don't think it's skipping. It just like kicks out of gear at 35mph only when it's cold though! Everything screams solenoids to me. with other cars having similar problems, solenoids fixed them. So I guess I'll just take this job on and do it. Worst comes to worst, I get a rebuild.

Man, you're scaring me by saying that. I just feel like it doesn't need a rebuild. I just feel it's the solenoids. Solenoids are cheaper. So I'll do that. If it's not fixed, I'll take her to the doctor!

Well I haven't done anything to fix it but as it's getting colder, it seems to be getting worse. I'm not saying it's skipping out of gear, but it loses power and climbs speed very slowly. I can rev the engine while it's doing this and it down shifts hard and take off again. It's really annoying. You guys said a rebuild will fix this. How sure are you? I don't want to go get a rebuild knowing I could have fixed this myself for 100 bucks.
