Well it seems I need to replace the 7/8s in my car here pretty soon before it gets worse.
Im making a thread so I can get everything lined up for parts so this replacement should go smooth and only take a day to R & R.

    What I know,
I need to order a new Hyvo 7/8s chain, channel plate gaskets, and a new C Clip just incase from Dave at TEP.
Anything else to replace or check while I have the side cover off?

I also will be replacing the trans filter and I need to order a case of Amsoil trans fluid. (Amsoil is what is in the trans from when Greg owned it and i dont want to mix brands or types of fluid.)

Help me out if Im missing anything else.

I might as well get used to doing this job I dont plan on changing my driving style and I think Ill be lucky to get the chains to last as long as a set of tires LOL. Just part of the issues to deal with when the cars on E85 and ripps pretty good, the sound of a 2.8 at full tilt always brings a smile to my face so I just need to keep up with the maintenance on this car.

Thanks Resident GPF pain in the ass LOL

    Tyler

No let me be clear this car will not get a 1 inch chain. If anything the turbo project would get a 1 inch chain before this car. Then maybe by a miracle someday if could afford to get a second 1 inch chain for this car. GMR parts are uber expensive!

1500-2k buys a hell of a lot of 100 dollar or less 7/8s chains and fluid and gaskets ect to do this job again when needed. Its normal maint for this car ive just accepted it.

That would pretty much push the reset button for the cost of the parts Ive already paid for so no. Not going to happen. This job doesnt look that hard and shouldnt really cost too much either.

Personally I think that clip is total overkill. I've never even put a spare into my parts case because you never lose or hurt it. The wiring harness is much easier to hurt than the clip. Be gentle and use a small screwdriver to help get the clips up over the tab and you should be fine. No doubt Greg replaced the harness when he built it. That's my $0.02 though.

Add on a jug of Dave's secret sauce aka drive train fluid and order 5 less quarts of Amsoil.

You'll be staring the 4th clutches and it's hub in the face, otherwise, there's very little you need to be concerned with unless you pull it and do the clutches.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Can you give me a breakdown bill.

Add some trans fluid from Dave maybe order a harness too just in case? (its just a short harness right?) And should I order 4th clutches and hub too. I see no reason to halfass or skimp out on anything I want it done right. And Id rather have items I might need on hand incase I need rather than not have them at all if some items are worth ordering like the 4th clutches and harness too.

trying to build a list to make a order all at once from TEP.

    thanks bill

    Ok..it's your money

Internal harness for your year/trans (shouldn't need)
4th clutch hub (should be ok, but you want parts)
Get 4th clutches and steels (steels are likely cooked)
    Channel plate gaskets
A jug of Dave's special sauce for transmissions
Side cover gasket (I doubt you'll hurt it)

Once you see pricing on the harness, cover gasket..you'll figure out that you don't actually need them.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Ok so no hub no harness no side cover gasket.

Order 4th clutches and steels, channel plate gaskets, Daves trans fluid, new 7/8s chain.

Got it that should be a solid list to get the job done. I'll send him an email for total price.

    Thanks again.

I never replaced the harness.....core I used on that transmission had 38k on it.

I always had future plans to shoot for 375whp in the car so that's the only reason that it saw the 7/8" chain. Going back in time I would have run the V8 spec chain instead........knowing that I never planned on putting slicks on the car or taking it to the track. If it stays a street car and not a track car then you're on the borderline of being able too get way with the V8 spec chain and not deal with chain streth down the road.

Note: If you even mention changing gear ratio it's a 1 week ban.
