That is really strange. The rebuild manual tells you to use the bolts as leverage to handle it.
Welp. 4th clutch hub replaced and I don't have 3rd or 4th
the sprag is fine it rotates one direction.

should I replace the solenoids and clutches?
There were chunks of metal in pan. Like a lot...

Before you had 3rd and then 4th stopped working, correct?
Third is a tough gear to not have. it's the default gear with both soleniods off. Even if the trans has no power..you get third. Clutches and sprag are the only things I am aware of that can keep third from working.

FYI.... A straight cut gear tooth is not a good thing to find in the pan.

The differential.... is this why I don't have 3rd or 4th. Or did the shavings get into the valve body.
Shavings shouldn't have made it past the filter. When you put that diff back in... it looks like you put the sungear in backwards.
I know ..it fit fine. Putting it in backwards, causes what you see.
Alright. But no body knows why I don't have 3rd or 4th gear? Whatever it is happened to my last trans. So it has to be something common...?
I know why you likely don't have it. To confirm it.. pull the trans and let's gut it
What should I be looking for? Should I pull the valve body?
please help. I'm really handy. But i don't know exactly how transmissions work. If you give me some ideas i can go from there..

I'd like to see Anthony Smith or Dave at TEP comment, as they deal with transmissions all day.
My guess would be that the sungear was put in backwards when the diff was reinstalled and that is why it self destructed. Why you are missing third could be the clutches are totally shot/or 3rd sprag has broken. 4th well.. I have only seen/heard of one case where putting a new hub shaft in didn't fix the issue. Dave was consulted and he mentioned that the part the splines of the shaft go into ... while harder than the shaft, can also wear enough to be destroyed, but it's very uncommon.
If this were my car, I'd take two routes. Rebuild or replace. car-part.com can often find a transmission for $100-$200 with about 100K on it and some warranty from the place selling.
So here is the part the 4th clutch hub goes into. It goes into the 3rd sprag.

And here is the inside of it. Its called the input sun gear. It looks like all the splines are pretty much gone.

Agreed, this is why you have no fourth gear.
In your top picture..that large drum where the sprag came out.. you have a ton of play in those clutch packs don't you? That's input and third.. hence why I think you are missing third
I'm not sure if there's play cause I've only handled broken transmissions.lol
