I recently purchased a 2008 Grand Prix base model for my daughter with the 4T65E transmission in it. It had 63,000 miles on it when we purchased it and now has 66,000 miles on it. The transmission fluid looks and smells good and the transmission shifts good. I am wanting to drop the pan and replace the filter and refill with fluid just so we know we have good fluid in the transmission. My question is do I need to add the Lucas treatment to the fluid if the transmission is acting fine or would it not hurt to add it anyway? What about the Trans Go shift kit? Is it worth adding for longevity of the transmission? This is our first Pontiac and I don't know a whole lot about the transmissions in these cars, but my father in law is a GM guy and has told me some stories about the transmission, because he has a 2001 Bonneville with the same transmission. I was wanting to get opinions from you guys. Thanks for any replies.

with 66,000 miles and the fluid looking good and zero issues, id just do the filter and new fluid.

no need for the lucas unless theres a problem your trying to fix.

I wouldnt bother with the lucas but for sure add the shift kit. In my personal opinion its a must on any 4t65e transmission. Better and slightly quicker shifts, reduces wear on parts and fixes a few problems that "could" happen later down the road. For 50 bucks its worth the cost.

It is really up to you.

A shift kit will ensure if the PCS (pressure control soleniod) gets flakey that you likely won't ever notice an issue and a little Lucas won't hurt anything.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
